The Spanish electronic passport incorporates, following the ICAO standard, an RFID chip embedded in its back cover and that is capable of identifying its holders without the need for contact with the readers.

The chip contains biometric data related to the facial image of the document holder, as well as the personal data included in the OCR lines.

In addition, it contains some of the latest security measures:

• Ultraviolet printing on all its sheets.
• Data sheet with a transparent holographic sheet that incorporates a series of embossed or moving effects, as well as microtexts and nanotexts, text and image transformations or diffractive watermarks.
• A ghost image of the headline photograph printed in the middle of the page.
