Grease resistant papers are papers that provide a barrier to grease either through the mechanical refining of the pulp during the manufacturing process (a true greaseproof) or have a chemical treatment either on the surface only, or a combination of surface and fibre mix treatment (chemical greaseproof).
The target is that the paper is prevented from staining when in contact with fatty foods. The level of grease resistance is indicated by a ‘Kit’ value e.g. Kit 4, Kit 6. The higher the ‘Kit’ value the higher the resistance to grease. Some fats are more aggressive than others, therefore a greater resistance to staining is needed.
Kit levels normally range from Kit 2 to Kit 12.
