DUSTEXTM ACTIVATED CARBON INJECTION (ACI) SYSTEM

DUSTEXTM ACTIVATED CARBON INJECTION (ACI) SYSTEM

DUSTEXTM ACTIVATED CARBON INJECTION (ACI) SYSTEM

The DustexTM Activated Carbon Injection (ACI) System provides high efficiency control of mercury (Hg), Dioxin, and Furan emissions from boiler flue gases.

Activated Carbon Injection Systems are the most established commercial technology for reducing emissions from flue gases. ACI has been proven, through numerous full-scale demonstrations to be the most cost-effective, cost-efficient way to reduce dioxin, furan, and mercury emissions from most boilers.  Depending upon the type of fuel being burned and the type of air pollution control equipment installed at the plant, the ACI system can reduce emissions by more than 90%.

ACI Basics

An Activated Carbon Injection (ACI) System is an engineered system in which Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) is pneumatically injected from a storage silo or bulk bag system (for smaller feed rates) into the flue gas ductwork. The PAC adsorbs the dioxin, furan, or mercury from the flue gas and is collected with the fly ash in the plant’s particulate collection device (baghouse or electrostatic precipitator).

Unique Properties of Activated Carbon

Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) is made from coal, coconut shells, nutshells, peat wood, and lignite. PAC flows easily but is very erosive. PAC is very porous, which gives it an enormous surface area. One gram of PAC has over 5,300 sq. ft. of surface area. PAC’s large internal surface area generates attractive forces (such as Van Der Waal forces) that pull other molecules to it. Once the mercury is adsorbed, it is held by the carbon until it is captured by the baghouse or ESP and removed from the system as waste.

Standard Design ACI Systems

LDX Solutions offers a large selection of standard design ACI systems that are based on our years of experience with the coal-fired power and cement industries. These systems are designed to meet the rigorous requirements of the power plant environment, cement plants, and renewable energy operations, operating for extended time periods with little or no maintenance. Our standard top-quality components have been chosen for their reliability and cost-effective performance.
