Wax paper is a wood-free product with a mostly black underprint and a pressure-sensitive layer applied over it. This layer is opaque, ie impermeable to light, and becomes transparent under pressure, eg from metal pins in the recording device. In this way, the negative pressure appears again. This results in a typeface that can display a variety of information. This quality is therefore used as registration or recording paper, for example in control rooms, on the railway or in older trucks (speedometer discs).
