Among the native starch, maize starch, potato starch and tapioca starch are manufactured while the modified variety consists of cationic starch, oxidized starch, dextrin, etc.

Native Starch

The company manufactures three different varieties of native starch namely, potato starch, maize starch and tapioca starch. Maize starch is another type of native starch used in pharmaceutical, textile and food industry. In pharmaceutical industry this native starch is used as a dusting media for coating purposes, filler for tablets and capsules, etc. Maize as a native starch finds wide application in dry granulation techniques. The native starch extracted from maize adds stiffness and weight to clothes. To get a permanent finish, maize starch is also used along with thermosetting resins or thermoplastics. After a fabric is dyed, printed or bleached it is treated with maize starch to refurbish its appearance. The viscous quality of maize starch provides thickness to gravies, sauces, pie fillings, puddings, etc.

Maize Starch

Native starch like maize starch also finds multitudinous applications. Applied as a paper coating agent, binder and surface sizing agent, maize starch considerably increases the strength of paper. Maize starch in the form of modified corn starch functions as an adhesive in pigmented coating for paper and paper board. Available in 50kgs plastic lined HDPE woven bag, maize starch powder finds significant uses in many industries.

Tapioca Starch

Tapioca starch is also a kind of native starch. An important raw material for plywood, textile, pharmaceutical, food and paper industries, tapioca starch is a highly in-demand product. Tapioca starch has a moisture content of 13-14 per cent, pH level (10% solution) of 5-7, and fiber content of 0.05 to 0.10. High viscosity level of tapioca starch makes it significant for plywood industry. This superior quality native starch is also used for manufacturing industrial glues. In pharmaceutical industry, tapioca starch finds usage as a filler, binder and disintegrating agent for manufacturing medicines. Tapioca starch finds application in textile industry at three levels: sizing, printing and finishing. In paper industry tapioca starch functions during surface sizing, beater sizing and surface coating.

Cationic Starch

Cationic starch is a modified starch. Unlike the potato, maize and tapioca native starches, cationic starch has a positive charge (cat-ion) attached to it. Cationic starch is a wet end starch that increases the internal strength of paper and helps in fillers and fines retention. Beside, paper industry, cationic starch also finds great usage in manufacturing AKD emulsions. Cationic starch helps in reducing cost by improving the effluent quality. Minimizing BOD in mill effluents, cationic starch has a high utility value. Only 3-10 kilograms of cationic starch is required for processing one ton of paper pulp. Cationic starch is a fine, white, odorless powder having moisture level of 12- 14 per cent and up to 0.3 per cent nitrogen.

Oxidized Starch

Akin to cationic starch, oxidized starch is also a modified starch. It exhibits improved properties like controlled viscosity. Oxidized starch is extensively used for paper coating and sizing. The quality of wax pick and glossiness of paper is markedly improved when treated with oxidized starch. The viscosity of oxidized starch can be customized to meet the user’s requirement. Oxidized starch has ash content of 0.3-0.4 per cent and an approximate moisture level of 12 per cent. Almost insoluble in cold water, oxidized starch is white in appearance having a brightness of about 90 per cent. It is a highly cost effective product.
