WAINWRIGHT COLOURS FROM NATURE
WAINWRIGHT COLOURS FROM NATURE
PIONEERING MATERIALS TO CELEBRATE OUR ENVIRONMENT
To coincide with our partnership with the Wainwright Prize, we are releasing a palette of papers inspired by the footsteps of famous Lake District walker Alfred Wainwright himself. Made with 100% recycled fibre and dyed with natural ingredients, our first two shades, Limestone and Herdwick Brown, are both derived from Rosemary extract.
FROM PLANT TO PAPER
Natural dyes are sourced from renewable origins that can be replenished responsibly, including food waste and inedible plant sources. They also offer a great alternative to traditional synthetic dyes, but are only available in a small palette of colours and can also be challenging to reliably bind to paper.
We have started with the addition of two natural botanical dyed colours for the Wainwright collection, made using renewable, non-edible waste from Rosemary production which is turned into dyestuff. By repurposing waste, these high-performance natural-based dyes are helping to support the transition to a more circular economy.
Great care is taken in the selection of dyes, a major raw material, to ensure good substantivity to cellulose, and safe usage in production. The papers in this collection are inherently biodegradable, should they end up in the environment, they would naturally degrade. However, recycling is always recommended so that the valuable paper fibre can be given another useful life.
