Introduction:

Klabin, Brazil's largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and sustainable solutions in paper packaging, as well as the country's leading producer of paperboard, plans to invest R$1.7 billion in a new recovery boiler at its Monte Alegre Unit in Telêmaco Borba, Paraná.

Features:

The recovery boiler is crucial for a pulp and paper plant, handling the recovery of chemicals used in wood processing and generating steam from black liquor (a byproduct of paper manufacturing containing lignin, extractives, and ash).

This modernization is designed to support the ongoing operation of the Monte Alegre Unit, improving sustainability, efficiency, and overall competitiveness.

The R$1.7 billion investment, including approximately R$180 million in recoverable taxes, will be allocated between 2024 and 2027. The funds will come from the Company’s cash reserves, ensuring no significant impact on financial leverage, and are part of the investment plans announced by Klabin in December 2023.

The project is anticipated to create up to 1,800 jobs at its peak and is expected to see the new boiler operational by the fourth quarter of 2026.
