In Bahia, Bracell produces special dissolving cellulose from wood with high alpha rates and a degree of purity above 98.5%. The company offers two basic types of specialty cellulose: soluble cellulose (rayon-grades) and special soluble cellulose (specialty-grades).

Soluble cellulose (Rayon-grades)

Major uses of soluble cellulose include:

  • Viscose and Lyocellfibers used in fabrics and non-wovens, as well as wet wipes, cosmetic masks.
  • Viscose filaments used in delicate fabrics such as women's underwear.
  • Cellophane films for environmentally friendly packaging.
  • Viscose sponges for domestic and industrial cleaning.

Special soluble cellulose (Specialty-grades)

Common uses of specialty soluble cellulose include:

  • Cellulose acetate flakes that are converted into cigarette filters.
  • Microcrystalline cellulose used as an ingredient in the manufacture of pharmaceutical and food products.
  • Nitrocellulose for the production of printing inks and special inks, enamel and cosmetics.
  • Industrial filament used to produce tire reinforcement.
  • Other special applications such as cellulose ethers and artificial casings for sausage production.
