Valmet to supply a biomass power plant to Göteborg Energi in Sweden

Valmet has secured a contract to provide a biomass plant to Göteborg Energi AB in Gothenburg, Sweden. Göteborg Energi is in the process of constructing a new facility, set to be operational by 2025, aimed at generating energy and district heat from renewable and reclaimed sources.

The financial details of this order will be included in Valmet's Q4 2023 orders received but have not been publicly disclosed.

Per-Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Göteborg Energi, emphasized the significance of this project, describing it as a milestone in their transition to district heating. He noted that with the new plant, they will eliminate the use of natural gas, offering customers 100% renewable and reclaimed energy for district heating. Gustafsson expressed anticipation for the cooperation with Valmet in this critical endeavor.

Antti Laaksonlaita, Director of Energy Plant Solutions at Valmet, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership with Göteborg Energi. He highlighted the state-of-the-art nature of the project, showcasing how sustainable resources can be efficiently converted into energy. Laaksonlaita emphasized the collaborative effort with Göteborg Energi in advancing their operations.

Valmet's scope of delivery encompasses a 140 MWth Valmet BFB Boiler plant employing bubbling fluidized bed technology, complemented by a flue gas cleaning system and a flue gas condensing system. The primary fuels for the plant will include forest residues and recycled wood chips. The plant is slated to commence operations in 2025.

In addition to the main boiler plant, Valmet will supply a boiler building and piping to connect the new boiler with the existing steam turbine. Operations and maintenance services, including Valmet Industrial Internet solutions, will enhance reliability and optimize performance, ensuring safe and sustainable production throughout the plant's lifecycle.
