Sappi Saiccor, a prominent producer of dissolving pulp, has solidified its partnership with technology powerhouse ANDRITZ by entering a three-year service contract. This agreement pertains to two recovery boilers that are integral to the operations of the mill located in Umkomaas, South Africa.

The two ANDRITZ boilers, which have been in operation since 2008 and 2021, collectively generate 230 tons per hour of steam at an impressive 490°C and 86 bar. The newly established service contract is poised to fortify the Saiccor mill's operational efficiency and safety, concurrently elevating the boilers' reliability and availability.

The comprehensive scope of the agreement encompasses a range of services essential for seamless operation. This includes operational support, engineering assistance, pre-shutdown services, and the annual shutdown services that encompass vital aspects like mechanical and process inspections. Additionally, the contract offers expert advisory services for critical tasks such as boiler washing and boiler repair and replacement works.

Positioned 50 kilometers to the south of Durban's port, the Saiccor mill stands as a pivotal hub for the production of elemental chlorine-free (ECF) dissolving pulp, with a predominant focus on the export market. It is a key asset within the Sappi group, a globally recognized leader in providing sustainable everyday materials crafted from renewable resources rooted in wood fiber.

Through this strategic collaboration with ANDRITZ, Sappi Saiccor is poised to uphold its operational excellence, ensuring the continued supply of high-quality dissolving pulp to global markets.
