Production rolls on at Norske Skog's Walsum mill in Germany despite administration

18 June 2015

Production is continuing for now at Norske Skog's 205,000 tonne/yr Walsum lightweight coated (LWC) paper mill in Germany, currently in administration, according to a representative of the administrator's office. The confirmation came amid a flurry of questions on the market over the mill's actual status.

The German state can cover the employees' salary costs for three months. The representative from the administrator's office confirmed that as of Wednesday, the Walsum mill was continuing to buy raw material, produce paper and deliver it. "Production is not stopped. The machine has been producing the whole time," he said, but added that he could not say how long it will continue.
