Keliber, a subsidiary of Sibanye-Stillwater, has entered into a contract with Metso for the provision of an effluent treatment plant destined for Keliber's lithium hydroxide refinery in Kokkola, Finland. Typically valued at around EUR 15-25 million, this order signifies a crucial step in the project. Additionally, the remainder of the contract, totaling approximately EUR 40 million and encompassing equipment for Keliber's concentrator plant in Kaustinen, Finland, as previously announced on December 19, 2022, will be recorded in the Minerals segment's orders received for the third quarter of 2023.

Metso's role in the effluent treatment plant project includes the complete package of engineering, procurement, equipment supply, and advisory services. Key components to be provided include OKTOP® Atmospheric Reactors for impurity precipitation and lithium recovery, an electrochemical water treatment unit for arsenic removal, as well as an inclined plate settler and Metso's environmentally conscious Larox® PF and FP pressure filters for efficient dewatering. In the case of the concentrator plant, Metso will furnish all critical process equipment spanning from crushing to dewatering.
