Malaysia’s wood product exports rose 6.8% in January-May 2017

Malaysia’s wood product exports rose 6.8% to RM9.75 billion ($2.3 billion) in the first five months of this year compared to the same period a year ago, as ITTO reported.

The timber industry was one of the major contributors to national export earnings recording between RM20 billion ($4.7 billion) and RM22 billion ($5.2 billion) in revenue annually over the past 10 years. It is expected that growth in wood product exports this year will be around 5%.

Furniture dominated export earnings in the first five months of this year at RM3.28 billion ($0.8 billion) followed by plywood (RM1.96 billion) and sawnwood (RM1.6 billion).
