Good demand on Germany's thermal paper market supports price hike plans

11 May 2017

Thermal paper producers active on the German market are satisfied with incoming orders. The situation is supporting their plan to hike prices at least in some market segments.

Players in the thermal paper market report positive business development. Current order levels of paper mills and converters are reportedly satisfactory. Paper mills also had lucrative export opportunities, they added.

Price hike initiatives are progressing on the thermal paper market all across Europe. While the implementation is proving to be difficult in the label and tickets segment, higher prices are being implemented in the POS segment.

According to industry representatives, hike initiatives were not motivated only by the pressure on the cost side, but did reflect the current market situation as well, with paper manufacturers enjoying a healthy order backlog.

Market players expect that the number of thermal paper suppliers will drop as a result of the anti-dumping measures adopted by the European Commission on certain thermal paper from South Korea. Experts do not believe that the market will see increased imports from other overseas markets as a result.
