ANDRITZ to supply recovery boiler upgrade, new ash leaching plant and lime kiln to Andhra Paper, India

5 August 2023

ANDRITZ, the international technology group, has secured an order from Andhra Paper Limited in Rajahmundry, India, for an upgrade to their recovery boiler and implementation of sustainable technologies to enhance capacity and achieve environmental objectives at their mill.

The comprehensive order comprises several components, including a recovery boiler capacity upgrade. This upgrade, performed on an EPC basis, will raise the capacity from 1,300 tons of dry solids per day (tds/d) to 1,500 tds/d. Key elements of the delivery include an air system upgrade and super heater modification, to be installed and started-up during the planned mill shutdown.

In addition to the recovery boiler upgrade, ANDRITZ will also provide an ash leaching system, designed to remove non-process elements, such as chloride and potassium, from the Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) ash. This will result in minimized chemical loss in the recovery cycle, improved runnability, and extended life of the recovery boiler. The ash leaching plant, supplied on an EPS basis, is engineered to handle 95 tons of ash per day.

To further advance sustainability and reduce solid wastes and gaseous emissions, the order includes a new lime kiln. This EPC-based lime kiln has a capacity of 190 t/d burnt lime and incorporates an innovative LimeDry lime mud washing and dewatering filter, an LMD LimeKiln feeding system, a LimeCool system, and a LimeFire multi-fuel burner. The efficient lime mud washing process, facilitated by the LimeDry filter, ensures high-quality lime mud and minimizes lime kiln emissions. ANDRITZ's well-proven lime kiln technology, with successful project references worldwide, guarantees optimized energy consumption and superior lime kiln operational performance.

Expressing enthusiasm for the investment, Sura Reddy Mallidi, Senior Vice President (Mill Operations) of Andhra Paper Limited, emphasized that adopting ANDRITZ's proven technologies will enhance reliability and efficiency at their Rajahmundry mill.
