In Germany, tissue paper producers are encountering substantial pressure on prices even though capacity utilisation is said to be recovering in the fourth quarter.
The situation is compounded by a significant surplus supply on the market. Experts estimate this surplus at 600,000 to 800,000 t. The start-up of new tissue machines on the market was putting even more fuel into the fire, sources told EUWID.
A few tissue manufacturers had upped their prices over the summer months, however, most suppliers had tacked on much less than they had hoped. In addition, suppliers sticking to price increase had to swallow a significant loss in business. Since not all producers had increased their prices, orders had simply changed hands, one market participant noted.
