AET to deliver biomass CHP plant for French paper mill

8 December 2016

Denmark’s Aalborg Energie Technik (AET) is set to deliver a biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant for a French paper mill after winning the EPC contract for the project.

The 20 MWe/23.5 MWth Cogéneration Biomasse de Novillars (CBN) plant is planned to provide 153 GWh of power and 215,000 tonnes of process steam per year for the Gemdoubs paper mill in the town of Doubs in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.

The plant is expected to cost €87 million ($94 million) to build and, once completed, will use wood fuel sourced from within a 100 km radius.

The plant consists of fuel handling, a biomass boiler, steam turbine, flue-gas cleaning system and steam connection to the paper mill. Additional equipment will include AET’s combustion technology and SNCR DeNOx system.

AET said the plant will be ‘highly optimized’ in line with requirements set by the French government for the CRE 4 auction round, and will have over 65% efficiency.
