Air Handling Systems

Air Handling Systems are colloquially abbreviated as AHU (Air Handling Unit). This mechanism is designed to distribute and \control air which is an integral part of a heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system, a process referred to as HVAC in the industry. AHU’s comprise of a sizeable metal box which in turn consists of a blower, heating/cooling elements, filets racks, sound attenuators and dampers. An air handler is usually a large metal box containing a blower, heating or cooling elements, filter racks or chambers, sound attenuators, and dampers. Operationally, an Air Handling System is annexed to a ductwork ventilation system that circulates the conditioned air throughout the building and returns it to the AHU.

While smaller Air Handlers, also called Terminal Units, perform these functions locally, larger Air Handlers, known as Makeup Air Unit, are designed to condition the outside air in its entirety. There are also outdoor Air Handlers, commonly called Packaged Unit, which are mechanised to specifically be placed atop roofs.
