Upward price trend on pulp market comes to a halt

8 August 2018

After a long time, pulp prices finally stopped their inexorable rise from one month to the next in July and no increases were announced for August.

Although summer quiet has set into the pulp market, demand had not really eased in the segment for softwood pulp qualities in July. Supply was restricted due to production problems at certain mills. Prices only went up in cases where producers had not implemented full hike last month.

Eucalyptus pulp prices remained unchanged for four months in a row – in US dollars, at least. Here too, demand showed no sign of weakening. Market players did not expect any price changes in August, not least because producers did not announce increases in July.
