UPM and Leipa in sale and conversion talks on UPM Schwedt newsprint mill

Feasibility study on the conversion of newsprint paper machine to recycled containerboard production to start with immediate effect.

UPM and Germany's Leipa Georg Leinfelder GmbH are negotiating the potential sale of UPM's Schwedt newsprint mill. The two companies announced that Leipa is considering the acquisition of the UPM Schwedt site and plans to convert the newsprint mill to recycled containerboard production with a capacity of 450,000 tpy of white-top testliner.

UPM Schwedt newsprint mill is located in north-eastern Germany, in immediate proximity to Leipa's own paper mill. UPM Schwedt runs one paper machine with a production capacity of 280,000 tpy of standard newsprint. Some 220-250 people are working at the site.
