Suppliers trim prices for brown recycled containerboard in Italy

2 November 2018

Weaker demand from the corrugated industry and good availability across all grades and basis weights have led to softening prices for brown recycled corrugated case material on the market in Italy.

Although Italian prices for ordinary recovered paper grades were largely stable in October, producers of brown recycled corrugated case material were forced to make downward price adjustments.

This price trend, that has become established over the past two months, has primarily affected the Italian recycled containerboard grades Testliner IV and Medium, but buyers were sometimes also paying less for European qualities in October.

In addition to the general economic situation in the pre-Christmas period, the situation on the Italian recovered paper market and, even more strongly, the growth in supply through additional production capacities in Europe, will play a decisive role in the development of recycled containerboard prices in the last quarter of the year, according to EUWID sources.
