Stora Enso to shut down one machine at Imatra mill

4 February 2019

The company says it is preparing to protect its competitiveness as market uncertainty rises.

Stora Enso has announced the definitive closure of the paper machine PM 6 at its Imatra industrial complex in Finland. With a maximum production capacity of 90,000 tpy of one-side coated woodfree paper, PM 6 is one of the small and older lines at the site, and has now reached the end of its operating life, according to the company.

The machine is scheduled to continue operating at least until the maintenance shutdown in the third quarter of 2019 or until the end of the year in order to be able to deliver the quantities confirmed, Stora Enso announced.

The closure of the PM 6 was part of a "profit protection programme of €120m targeting reductions in variable and fixed costs, as market uncertainty increases," the company explained.
