Sharp fall in BEK pulp prices in April in Europe

16 May 2016

Bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp prices continued on a downward path in April. Manufacturers are preparing now to lift the pulp prices to higher levels again.

Players on the pulp market in Europe are bearing witness to a sharp drop in BEK pulp prices. In the past two months list prices receded by 10% and have eroded by as much as much 17-18% since last summer.

Following multiple price hike announcements on the Chinese market at the end of April - for deliveries in May, a first manufacturer has informed its customers about its price plans for Europe.

Ence is planning to increase its BEK prices in Europe and all other sales regions by $20/t from 1 June, citing low inventory levels and an increase in global hardwood pulp demand, especially in China.
