Scheufelen to resume operations in July

30 June 2018

Scheufelen paper mill will not produce standard coated woodfree paper grades in the future, but will put focus on grass paper and its premium range of products.

An investor solution has been found for the insolvent German fine paper manufacturer Papierfabrik Scheufelen. The company plans to resume operations at the beginning of July.

"Thanks to a strong partnership of investors Green Growth Fund 2 / Wermuth Asset Management, Nordia Invest and Scheufelen Equity Partners, the newly established „Scheufelen GmbH“ will initiate operations with staff of 100 on July 2nd, 2018." the company announced in today's press release.

Besides the grass fiber based paper grades, which reportedly attracted strong interest by the company's customers, the investor concept involved also the continued production of Scheufelen's premium paper products, especially the packaging board Phoenolux, the company said. Production of standard coated woodfree paper for graphic application is not to be resumed.

Papierfabrik Scheufel had declared insolvency in January 2018 and had to stop production operations on its 130,000 tpy PM 5 in April due to financial issues. The Lenningen mill also houses two other paper machines, PM 2 and PM 6, which had been idled and mothballed in 2006 and 2014, respectively.
