Sappi has ramped up a new steam boiler at its 760,000 tonne/yr Kirkniemi coated mechanical paper mill in southern Finland. Construction work was completed by July 17 and the boiler is now running normally, a company spokesperson said.

The project cost some Euro 56 million ($65 million), the spokesperson added. The boiler is part of a Euro 120 million investment, announced in 2013, which also covered an upgrade of the pulp facility and one of the paper machines at Sappi's Gratkorn coated woodfree paper mill in Austria.
