Sappi finalises rebuild of PM 9 at its Gratkorn mill

Rebuild follows upgrade of PM 11 in 2014 and an overhaul of the recovery plant in 2015

At Sappi's Gratkorn mill in Austria, modernization of PM 9 was completed at the end of January. The aim of the €30m wet end rebuild was to optimize PM 9 in terms of economy, reliability and energy efficiency. The machine is now running in normal operation again, Manuela Huber, Mill Communications Manager, told EUWID. The main partner for the major project was Valmet, PM 9 produces coated fine paper grades with a basis weight of 66 g/m2.

The Gratkorn mill has a total capacity of 980,000 tonnes of double- and triple-coated woodfree paper per year. In addition, 250,000 tpy of TCF pulp are produced for the company's own needs. The mill employs 1,240 people.
