Resolute Forest Products invests $270m to construct a tissue paper facility at its Calhoun mill, Tennessee

Resolute Forest Products will start producing tissue. The company plans to enter the market by 2017 and to reach a capacity of 60,000 tpy.

Canadian pulp and paper manufacturer Resolute Forest Products has decided to make a first step into the tissue market. The company announced plans to invest $270m in the construction of a tissue paper facility at its Calhoun mill in Tennessee, USA. Construction work is to start soon and production is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2017.

Resolute reported that it would produce at-home, premium bath tissue and towel, focused on the private label market. The capacity of the tissue paper machine and converting operations will reach 60,000 tpy. The project will create 105 new jobs, according to Resolute. The company said this was its largest investment since 2010.

The Calhoun mill produces commercial printing papers, newsprint and market pulp with a combined capacity of 610,000 tpy. The company is currently raising its hardwood pulp capacity at the site from 230,000 tpy to 500,000 tpy.
