Pulp buyers in Europe hope that prices will recede from autumn onwards

23 August 2018

After months of price increases in the pulp segment and a recent stabilisation in prices, first hopes arise that prices might recede in autumn. Producers do not always agree, though.

Business in the European pulp market is still relatively quiet in August. Market players expect prices of hardwood and softwood pulp, which remained largely unchanged month-on-month in July, to move laterally again in the current month.

Some buyers are nursing hopes that prices might recede starting from autumn to the end of the year, for the first time in a long while. They believe that the price trend may see a reversal especially for NBSK pulp.

However, supply remains short and NBSK pulp producers therefore tend to dismiss customers' expectations as wishful thinking.
