9 July 2015

Pro-Gest has finalised the acquisition of the Mantua mill in Italy and intends to start producing recycled containerboard in the summer of 2016. This will add 420,000 tpy of capacity to the market.

The former newsprint mill in Mantua, Italy, which has been idle since February 2013, will be brought back to life. Italian integrated packaging company Pro-Gest reported that it had finalised the takeover of Burgo's mill on 30 June and planned to resume operations in the summer of 2016. The transaction price remains undisclosed.

The company will produce recycled corrugated case material in grammages of 70-140 g/m² in Mantua, according to a spokeswoman. The planned capacity was put at over 420,000 tpy. Details about the investment sum would be published this autumn, said the spokeswoman, adding that to restart the mill, at least €150m would be needed.
