Polish WFU paper prices edge up in July on good demand and limited supply

6 August 2015

There can be no talk of a summer slump on Polish market for woodfree uncoated paper this year. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Various suppliers described the order situation at the end of July as unusually good

Market experts mainly attribute the high activity levels to good demand and reduced supply. European companies continue to benefit from better export business with overseas markets due to a weak euro. Furthermore, import volumes to Europe have decreased and the forthcoming capacity curtailments are already having an impact on the market.

In addition to good operating rates at paper mills, prices are on an upward trend. The Polish market largely skipped the hike to uncoated fine paper prices which took place in Continental Europe in April. Only some individual suppliers realised hikes in Poland. Now, lower availability of offset and copy paper provides support to the hikes announced on 1 July and is expected to result in hikes of 3-4%.
