Poland reports drastic cuts to newsprint prices

5 February 2015

Low priced imports from Belarus and Russia created additional downward pressure on newsprint prices in Poland.

Poland is one of those countries where price movement on the paper market is usually decided quickly. And that was certainly the case in the publication paper market this time. The general trend started to become apparent in early December and by January the majority of the negotiations for the new long-term contracts had been concluded.

The paper industry came out on the losing side of the talks, with standard newsprint in particular suffering considerable mark-downs. Key players on the Polish market for standard newsprint typically reported price drops of 8-9%. Deliveries by the local manufacturer and suppliers from Belarus and Russia mostly featured prices on the lower end of the price range, it is said.
