Norpac draws the consequences of what it says are dumped paper imports from Canada. The company will close one of its machines for uncoated mechanical paper.

The North Pacific Paper Company (Norpac) plans to close down one of its three paper machines for uncoated mechanical paper. According to a local media report, the affected machine produces newsprint with a capacity of 250,000 tpy. The shutdown is scheduled for October.

Norpac made clear that the measure was a happening in response to what it says are dumped and subsidized paper imports from Canada. The company said in a statement it would reorganise its operations in order to stay competitive in the face of Canadian government-subsidized competition.

Norpac recently filed a petition with the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) to impose antidumping and countervailing duties on Canadian imports of certain grades of uncoated groundwood paper.
