No lasting price increase on Italy's coreboard market in Q4

22 December 2016

Prices on the Italian coreboard market have barely altered in the fourth quarter. Some upward price adjustments made in October have been partially or completely revoked the following month.

Coreboard manufacturers in Italy had hardly any success in their efforts to raise their selling prices again in the fourth quarter after the increases in June or July. Rising recovered paper prices had prompted producers to inform their customers in September of plans to tack on more for deliveries from October. Market players have now said that a part of this hike had actually frequently taken hold at the start of the quarter. However, it had been largely or entirely erased in the next month or in December at the latest, according to insiders.

Many sources said that the conditions needed for higher prices to stick had not been in place in October. Demand had been good, but not outstanding, and recovered paper prices had not risen any further, as feared, but suffered a setback in October, a few buyers argued.
