Mondi says no decision has been made yet on the potential investment at the Stambolijski mill.

Mondi group is mulling over a substantial expansion of its operations in Bulgaria. According to an announcement made by Bulgaria's Ministry of Economy, the group intends to spend more than €600m on building a new production facility in the country. The government has been reportedly informed of the potential investment during a meeting of Bulgaria's deputy Minister of Economy Lachezar Borisov with the Technical Director of Mondi Christian Skilich and the head of Bulgaria's Investment Agency Stamen Yanev.

In a statement regarding potential capital investment projects in Bulgaria, Mondi announced that it was constantly evaluating "potential investments at its cost advantaged operations" and that the company was currently "assessing various options at its Stambolijski mill in Bulgaria." Mondi stressed that at the current stage no decision has been made and therefore no further details were available.

Mondi runs one integrated pulp and paper mill in Bulgaria. In 2016, the output of the Mondi Stamboliskij mill reached 95,000 t of pulp and 100,000 of sack kraft paper.

In early March this year, Mondi announced that it intended to invest €700-800m per annum in 2018 and 2019 to expand capacity and enhance competitiveness of its pulp and paper operations.
