Magazine paper suppliers go for July price increases

10 May 2018

Sappi plans to lift its sales prices for LWC and MWC grades by 6-8% from 1 July "due to continued cost increases and strong demand."

Italy's Burgo Group announced a 7-8% price increase for its LWC and MWC magazine paper grades. The price hike would be applied on all contractual and non-contractual businesses in Europe and Overseas and was necessary "in order to achieve a minimum sustainable profitability," the company announced.

Svenska Celullosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) is asking for a €40/t price hike for all deliveries of its coated and uncoated mechanical paper grades. The price hike was supported by a substantially stronger publication market and would apply for all deliveries as of 1 July 2018, SCA informed.

Burgo, Sappi and SCA are not the only suppliers asking for a price increase for July deliveries. Back in April, several more companies had informed their customers of a looming price hike for LWC, MWC and SC-Paper on the European market, according to EUWID's market sources.
