The Japanese unbleached kraft pulp manufacturer might not be able to resume production for at least two months.

Production at the Japanese pulp manufacturer Hyogo Pulp Industries has been offline since a boiler exploded on 29 August. The company manufactures unbleached kraft pulp (UKP) on one production line with a capacity of 200,000 tpy.

The company, which supplies converters in Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea and South East Asian countries, expects this unscheduled stoppage to last at least two to three months. Experts believe that repairs to the damaged boiler might take even longer than Hyogo forecast. Ramifications for the UKP market from the sudden stoppage cannot be ruled out either, they say.
