Hungary achieves PEFC endorsement

13 June 2017

Hungary is the latest country to achieve PEFC endorsement of its national forest certification system.

“It has been more than 15 years since the first initiative to introduce PEFC forest certification in Hungary was launched,” said Endre Schiberna, Hungarian Forest Certification Non-profit Ltd. “The latest process was funded and closely supported by the PEFC Collaboration Fund, which was vital to facilitate the co-operation of stakeholders.”

“It is fantastic to see the Hungarian forest certification system endorsed,” said Ben Gunneberg, CEO of PEFC International, following the announcement.

“Our Collaboration Fund provided financial and technical support for the development of the Hungarian system, so this is a wonderful end to the project and brilliant news for the country’s forest owners who can now demonstrate their sustainable forestry practices through PEFC certification.”

Hungary is the first country whose endorsement can be traced back to seed funding provided through a PEFC Collaboration Fund project.
