German recovered paper prices rise markedly in August

24 August 2016

Poor availability and strong demand have pushed prices for ordinary recovered paper grades higher in Germany in August.

There is no sign of any summertime slowdown on the German market for recovered paper. School holidays are underway in most of the country and recovered paper arisings have therefore fallen sharply, meaning only limited volumes are available.

At the same time, demand from the Far East for German exports has increased again, which means even less material is available for the domestic paper industry. Furthermore, the packaging paper converting capacities that have recently begun operations or are due to start up soon are also having a significant effect on demand.

As a result of these factors, the prices for mixed paper and supermarket paper and board on the German market have risen considerably in August.
