Containerboard prices in the UK under pressure

20 January 2016

There is pressure on prices in the UK's containerboard market. This has led to some cuts to brown kraftliner prices while recycled grades did not cost more in January.

Corrugated case material prices were stable in January, although prices are coming under mounting pressure. Converters are desperate to pay less for brown grades in February. However, a few stoppages for maintenance are on the books for the first quarter. "If prices stay the same in February, they will not go lower in March, either," one expert on the suppliers' side of the market felt. White testliner prices are apparently feeling less pressure.

British prices for brown and white kraftliner have come under massive pressure too after lower prices took effect in mainland Europe. Converters and suppliers report that brown kraftliner prices had sometimes fallen in December or January or would do so in February at the latest.
