ARAUCO informed the Chilean Environmental Superintendence that construction work is starting for a new wastewater treatment system at the company’s Arauco pulp mill, which is located in the Arauco commune.

The treatment system, which will be an important addition to the industrial complex in the Horcones area, will be built on 36.4 hectares (90 acres) of land. Work is scheduled to begin during the second week of June, with the harvesting and clearing of the site.

The company is investing US$ 120 million in this project, which is expected to be ready in May 2017.

The company will provide employment to an average number of 50 workers per month between June 2015 and January 2016, during which time activities will be mainly related to earthwork.

Civil works are expected to begin by February 2016, and will require a larger workforce. An average of 620 workers will be employed during February 2016 and May 2017.
