Production start of the new recycled containerboard machine at Pro-Gest's Mantua mill was last announced for the month of August, but was once again postponed.

According to Pro-Gest, the new paper machine at Cartiere Villa Lagarina's mill in Mantua, Italy has been running trial runs for several weeks now and produced its first paper reel in the first week of September. However, commercial production was not expected to start until sometime between the end of the year and the beginning of next year, the company announced.

Pro-Gest's subsidiary Cartiere Villa Lagarina had acquired the former Burgo newsprint mill in 2015 and converted the site to recycled corrugated case material production. The mill houses a Valmet-supplied containerboard machine with a width of 7.6 m on reel, designed for a maximum production capacity of 550,000 tpy. According to the project description, the new PM is meant to produce more than 400,000 tpy of recycled lightweight corrugated case material. However, the mill is currently subject to environmental regulations which allow an annual production of only 200,000 tpy.
