Columbia Pulp to start-up new straw pulp mill in Q1 2019

Columbia Pulp is setting up a new pulp mill, which uses straw as a rwa material. The 140,000 tpy mill is to start up soon.

The new pulp mill of US company Columbia Pulp, which will produce pulp based on straw and alfalfa, is almost ready for start-up. The company told EUWID that production was expected to start towards the end of the first quarter of this year. It would take a number of months to reach full capacity, it added.

When running at full capacity, the new mill will be able to produce 140,000 tpy of straw pulp for the production of papers such as specialty papers, tissue or packaging products. In addition to pulp, up to 95,000 tpy of lignin and sugar are to be produced for co-products, which will be sold for road and agricultural uses such as de-icing, dust control, and spray adjuvants.
