Cartiere Carrara gets approval for new tissue machine

The new TM will more than double production capacity at Cartiere Carrara's Ferrania tissue mil, say regional government officials.

Italy's tissue paper and products company Cartiere Carrara has obtained approval from the regional government of Liguria to install a new tissue machine at its Ferrania mill in Cairo Montenotte. The announcement was made by the regional council at its meeting held at the end of February. The approval includes the increase of the mill's tissue capacity from currently 150 tpd to 320 tpd, it is learnt. Furthermore, a new cogeneration plant, for which approval was also granted, is to be built at the site to produce energy for the new machine.

Cartiere Carrara has an installed capacity of 200,000 tpy of tissue. According to local newspaper reports, the new TM at the Ferrania mill will have a capacity of 60,000 tpy while the cogeneration plant will be able to produce 4.3 MW.

Cartiere Carrara was not available for comment. Trade unions said they were not involved in the project.
