Brazilian paper export volumes rise 6.3% in May

3 July 2015

Brazilian paper exports were 169,000 tonnes in May, a 6.3% gain over a year ago, according to data released by the Brazilian Paper Industry (Ibá). Exports also increased 0.7% to 808,000 tonnes through May, reflecting paper suppliers' efforts to direct more volumes overseas, as domestic demand has been weak due to the country's economic turmoil.

Ibá's statistics also show that Brazilian paper domestic sales declined 6.8% to 439,000 tonnes in May 2015 over May 2014, while production remained stable at 845,000 tonnes and imports slumped 30.8% to 74,000 tonnes.
