After a year of stalemate, prices for label papers are rising in Germany
13 February 2019
Label paper suppliers were able to increase prices for 2019 in Germany after long-term contracts prevented them from handing on higher pulp costs to their customers in 2018.
Producers of label paper operating on the German market experienced a difficult year in 2018. Since contracts for label paper were traditionally fixed for a long term – usually up to one year – producers were unable to pass on additional pulp costs to their customers.
However, they announced price increases for January 2019 as early as in September 2018 – and managed to implement the majority of their demands. There were also reports of many more quarterly or half-yearly contracts. Many –but not all – of the one-year contracts signed for this year feature price-adjustment clauses.
