Weaker pound Sterling forcing paper producers to take action

26 October 2016

Against the backdrop of the newest decrease of the pound against the euro, newsprint manufacturers aim for a higher increase on the British market than in continental Europe. British prices were currently among the lowest throughout Europe and had to be brought into line with others, they said.

In some instances, manufacturers are planning to split the increase into two instalments: the first should add on the same amount as is being sought on the continent and the second would represent a separate surcharge to offset the exchange rate effect. However, not all suppliers had provided specific information about their price goals as this issue went to press.
