Suppliers announce price increase for UWF paper in Germany

19 March 2015

Prices for woodfree uncoated paper in Germany might go up soon. Manufacturers announced a price hike with effect from April at the latest and are optimistic about their chances to realise it.

By now all major producers of woodfree uncoated paper have informed their customers in Germany of their plans to raise prices. Observers expect that an increase will take effect at the end of March or beginning of April. The hike should apply to all uncoated paper grades, including A and B-grade cut sizes as well as coloured papers.

In light of the upcoming capacity reductions and attractive prices on the overseas export market, coupled with the decline in imports which should reduce volumes on the European markets, insiders believe that the market environment is favourable and that there is a good chance the increase can be implemented. Producers are said to be forming a "relatively united front", but the talks are still in a very early stage.
