Sodra raises the market price of birch sawn timber

19 February 2015

Södra is experiencing strong demand for birch sawn timber, thus entailing an adjustment of the price to the market situation. The price is being raised by SEK 100 per cubic metre as of 16 February.

"We have a healthy level of incoming orders and many inquiries, prompting our decision to raise the price," says Håkan Svensson, President of the Södra Wood business area.

Birch is primarily used in furniture, flooring and cabinet-making.

"However, Södra is having difficulties securing sufficient volumes of the birch raw material. We therefore raised the price of birch logs by SEK 30 per cubic meter on 26 January. We hope that this will invigorate harvesting and boost supplies of the raw material so that we can manufacture our much-sought-after products. We currently cannot supply all of the customers who have expressed an interest," says Håkan Svensson.
