Production of coated graphic paper at Metsä Board's Husum mill in Sweden to cease by Q4

7 September 2015

Production of coated mechanical and coated woodfree paper on PM 8 at Metsä Board's Husum mill in Sweden is set to stop by the end of the third quarter.

The machine used to have a capacity of some 290,000 tonnes/yr of graphic paper, much of which was coated and sold by Sappi under a long-term sales agreement. Metsä Board converted the machine in spring and has now renamed it BM 2. Its new capacity is 300,000 tonnes/yr and going forward it will produce uncoated woodfree paper reels as well as linerboard. The idea is that by the end of 2017 it will only make linerboard.
