Germany's Papierfabrik Palm to invest Euro 100 million in newsprint business over four years

12 October 2015

Germany's Papierfabrik Palm will spend some Euro 100 million ($113 million) on its Eltmann mill in Germany and its King's Lynn mill in the UK, both producing newsprint, over a four-year period in order to cut costs and improve paper quality, according to sources with knowledge of the project.

Palm started last year by upgrading the stock preparation unit of the 200,000 tonne/yr standard newsprint PM 1 at its Eltmann mill. The firm will do the same for the plant's second machine, the 340,000 tonne/yr standard newsprint PM 3. Both these projects aim to lower costs as well as improve paper quality and fiber recovery. They will also enable the firm to produce improved newsprint, in addition to standard newsprint, should the company choose to do so.
